THE MIGHTY GOD

Christmas Meditation

I join all Christians across the globe to celebrate the love of God for man... which is the real essence of Christmas. If you are celebrating Christmas today and you don't love then you are not celebrating our Lord Jesus Christ on the contrary you are in idol worship.

For God so LOVED the world and HE GAVE HIS SON... can you see? So if this is not the foundation of your celebration, you are not celebrating Jesus.

The very core part of what I want to bring to our consciousness this season is a very controversial issue not in the world or other beliefs but even among Christians and this is the GODHOOD OF JESUS.

It is necessary for us to understand this aspect of the faith hence we end up in unbelief.

There's this scripture that we vote for during this season that established the fundamental of this doctrine, however many have the dilemma of selective hearing where they posture their mindset to some things alone and by so doing they inject their thought into the word of God.

Let's see few verses:

Isaiah 9:6

[6]For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:7

[7]Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

I will emphasize only two which are

THE MIGHTY GOD

THE EVERLASTING FATHER

Prophet Isaiah doesn't make mistake by bringing this counsel to us but we all know that this is the prophecy of Christ wherein he called His name THE MIGHY GOD AND THE EVERLASTING FATHER...

...of the increase of this government shall be no end ...

The mighty implies Almighty God while everlasting is eternal, only the deity, in order words Jesus is not a demigod but God himself.

Let's see what Timothy said about this

1 Timothy 3:16

[16]And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

1 Timothy 3:14

[14](14-16) I hope to visit you soon, but just in case I'm delayed, I'm writing this letter so you'll know how things ought to go in God's household, this God-alive church, bastion of truth. This Christian life is a great mystery, far exceeding our understanding, but some things are clear enough:

He appeared in a human body,

was proved right by the invisible Spirit,

was seen by angels.

He was proclaimed among all kinds of people,

believed in all over the world,

taken up into heavenly glory.

Are you following? GOD APPEARED IN A HUMAN BODY which is the synthesis of Divinity in Humanity.

Without further argument, Jesus is God, God is Jesus

The putting on of human flesh by God is Jesus, God could not operate on the terrestrial domain as a spirit that's why he came as a human born of a woman all for the love of mankind.

Let's see the epistle of Paul

Colossians 1:15-16

[15]Christ is the exact likeness of the unseen God. He existed before God made anything at all, and, in fact,

[16]Christ himself is the Creator who made everything in heaven and earth, the things we can see and the things we can’t; the spirit world with its kings and kingdoms, its rulers and authorities; all were made by Christ for his own use and glory.

Jesus is the replica of the unseen God, the invisible God which we don't see is Christ who takes on human flesh. The same God who creates all things is the same who walks the earth.

Jesus in His teaching ministry emphasizes this very much but most time people read the bible with a notion.

Let's examine Jesus ...

John 10:30-31

[30]I and my Father are one.

[31]Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

John 10:38

[38]But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

The same issue we've today,  Jesus have it with the brethren in His days too but He couldn't speak to them in clear terms until His resurrection.

Let's see the conversation between Jesus and Phillip.

John 14:7-9

[7]If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

[8]Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

[9]Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

You will notice here from the response of Jesus to Philip after Jesus said if you know me, you have known my father and from now you've known him and seen Him. In other words, Jesus said now that you know me you've known the father and see him which means he is the father that they are longing to see but Phillip was curious and said show us the father.

Just like many people are today, they don't believe Jesus is God. But Jesus said to him emphatically, how many years have I been with you Philip and you of all people still ask me to show us the father? So all this while you still don't know me, Philip, ok o ooo let me repeat myself, he that seen me has seen the father.

This takes understanding, if there's a father somewhere, I'm sure Jesus could have said, I will show you the father but he said the father is whom you've known and seen.

John 1:1

1 In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.

This established that the word which is Christ is God.

Jesus is not an assistant to God

Jesus is not a demiGod

Jesus is the God

The fullness of the Godhead

Another writing of Prophet Isaiah to this effect is:

Isaiah 7:14

[14]Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

This subject matter 'Mighty God' is embedded in the name Immanuel which is the name of Jesus as pronounced by ISAIAH.

The name Immanuel is a Hebrew word which means GOD WITH US, however the word Immanuel is a conjunction of two Hebrew words which are:

Immanu - with us

El - God Almighty

Let's examine the fulfilment of the prophesy

Matthew 1:20-25

[20]But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

[21]And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

[22]Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

[23]Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

[24]Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

[25]And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
